Family Law in Islam

Family Law in Islam Divorce, Marriage and Women in the Muslim World In this introduction, three issues are addressed. First, emphasis is placed on the necessity of addressing the law and its practice in the Middle East and North Africa in a descriptive, non-interpretive way. Second, clarification is sought in the meaning and uses of several frequently- used words and concepts in this field of inquiry. And third, a suggestion is made to draw a distinction, within this domain, between the study of the discourse on the law and the study of the discourse of the law – that is, how the law is formulated and then referred to.
